The shows held by tiffany, always attract all the fans and bring the world great surprise. For 150 years, the silversmiths of Tiffany & Company have been Tiffany bangles by heads of state to commemorate historic events, by sporting clubs to honor world champions and by grandparents to welcome their newest family members.
The range of Tiffany craftsmanship, from huge yachting trophies to tiny mugs for children, is illustrated in "A Return to Tiffany Heart tag ring Tradition: the Silver of Tiffany" at the Center for the Study of Decorative Arts here.
The exhibit's 30 pieces are organized around five themes: birth, marriage, sport, special events or Paloma's Grown of Heart bangle and political milestones. Several objects are historically significant, while others are impressive for their elegance or complicated designs. The century-old Pueblo Bowl, for example, takes the form of a Pueblo water basket and is inlaid with niello and Elsa Pererri Open Heart bangle stripes. It was commissioned for the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.
A piece with more recent political significance is a replica of the Philadelphia Bowl, which President Ronald Reagan Paloma's Tenderness Heart ring to Mikhail S. Gorbachev of the Soviet Union in 1987. Inscribed in English and Russian, the bowl commemorates the leaders' first meeting in the United States. The bowl got its name because it is characteristic of silver produced in Philadelphia 200 years ago.
Among the show's "Achievement" pieces is the rectangular Interborough Rapid Transit Tray, commissioned in 1904 by August Tiffany Somerset cuff, who built the first subway line in New York City. An engraving of the route adorns the center of the tray.
All the pieces in the show were formed, etched, engraved and hand-chased by Tiffany silversmiths using the same dies and tools and following Tiffany Knots ring that have remained unchanged for generations.Tiffany & Company is exhibiting four table settings that depict imaginary moments in a Tiffany to celebrate its 50th anniversary at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.''The settings evoke the period,'' said John Funt, an interior display consultant who designed the four tables. ''Some are a fantasy.''
On the store's third floor is a room (right) that tells the story of a woman who was born to shop. There is a four-poster bed, a table laden with china and sterling Tiffany Somerset ring, a 1940's Tiffany catalogue and luggage casually strewn about. ''It's the room of a woman who lives in California,'' Mr. Funt said, ''and who will take a train across wholesale tiffany key rings just to go to the opening of the store.''
In a similarly fantastic vein, there is a table set on the observation deck of the Empire State Building with a sign requiring 10 cents to operate a Bausch & Lomb telescope. It's the 1940 price. The third design is built around a pony cart and a picnic hamper filled with sterling silver tiffany.
There are also a camera, a 1940's record player and jazz records. ''It's about a swell group of people who Tiffany Cushion Hoop earrings how to have a good time in the fall,'' Mr. Funt said. The fourth table was designed to look avant-garde, at least for the 1940's.
